MUST READ BEFORE BUYING

So you’ve decided to step it up a notch from your daily driver? A vehicle to let you get away from reality and blast through the city and just focus on one thing – the road. But wait! Before you start looking into buying an exotic or luxury vehicle there are a few things you should know!

The Cost

Weather you are looking to buy new, used, purchase or lease the cost up front for one of these vehicles is going to be quite significant. You are going to be paying for the tax, title, and license fee of these cars along with registration, toll tag, PPF, and other small fees associated with car ownership. Make no mistake there are good deals out there to be found, but once thing that will not change is the depreciation on these cars. Most new supercars see a 25% loss in the first two years, and then 10% depreciation for every year after that and that will increase even further with high mileage use. In total if you are looking to get a vehicle like the Lamborghini Huracan, Ferrari 458, or the McLaren 650S you are looking to pay about $65,000 a year for just one vehicle.

The Insurance

Getting quoted for a vehicle of this caliber is a little different than your everyday Mercedes or Cadillac. Most of these vehicles cost around $5,000 or more per year to insure and you want to make sure you have a good policy in case something were to happen.

The Maintenance

Unfortunately these cars are just as expensive to maintain, as they are to buy. The oil isn’t made from gold and the work isn’t done buy Enzo Ferrari himself, but you sure would think so based on the price. You can plan to spend around $2,500 to $4,000 on maintenance between tires, oil changes, alignments, check ups and other routine services.

Warranty

If you buy new or get a CPO (Certified Pre Owned) you won’t have to worry about this for the first year or two, but warranties are a big dilemma on supercars. Rule of thumb is just pray that nothing goes wrong. To buy extended warranties for just a single year or two from the manufacturer can cost thousands of dollars, and it doesn’t even cover the entire vehicle. If you get in a place where you have to replace any engine components, breaks, batteries, eclectic sensors or anything outside of your warranty you could be paying upwards of $5000 to $10,000 just for a single repair (nothing on these vehicles are cheap.)

The Options

Even though your vehicle could be the best at the time of purchase there will always be the latest and greatest coming out soon. It’s hard to deny that sometimes you wish you had a convertible instead of a coupe, a different color, or a luxury instead of a sports car - we are all envious of what we don’t have. With ownership you are limited to just your one vehicle, and most likely for a long-term commitment.
